The founder of the brand; Aisha Obuobi, started this label whiles in her final year at the
University of Ghana, Legon, where she majored in Psychology. Her inspiration to create
the label came from her paternal grandmother Christie Brown who was a seamstress for
the most part of her life. It is the determination to see her grandmother's name plastered on
magazines, billboards and runways all over the world and the love and passion for her trade
that spurs her on. After only a few of years in the industry, the label is creating a strong presence for itself. It reflects the personality of the founder's inspiration; it's chic, stylish and full of that newly emerging sentiment of the new African who plays on the global center-stage. |

Aisha Obuobi - creative director and founding partner of Christie Brown Ltd – began her love affair with fashion at an early age. Her grandmother, who the brand is named after, was a seamstress so she grew up watching Ms. Christie Brown, stooped over a sewing machine, creating beautiful clothes…like pieces of art – out of rich, vibrant materials. As a little girl, she reveled in playing with shreds of African print material and designed mini collections for her favourite dolls.
Aisha started this label whilst in her final year at the University of Ghana, Legon, where she majored in Psychology and she is driven by the desire to create beautiful pieces that will enhance the natural beauty in Christie Brown's clients. In 2009, Aisha won the highly coveted "Emerging Designer of the Year" award at the inaugural Arise Fashion Week, in South Africa. She was invited to sit on a panel at the African Economic Forum, which took place at Columbia University, New York, and Marie Claire (international) featured Aisha as one of twenty-one "Daring Women of 2010", noting the "the energy, the courage, the creativity," and "the drive" behind her work. |

An Open Letter to the Christie Brown Woman I have always looked to the tiny moments that speak to my heart and make me smile.
As a designer I am inspired by the talented designers in the fashion industry. On the quest to bring more life and meaning to my work, I found inspiration, from the regular everyday things.
I am ultimately living my dream, to create clothing that celebrates the femininity of African woman and compliments the bold personalities that we are embedded within. As I drew my sketches, I never lost sight of these traits and they were the main inspiration for the new collection –Talensi. This collection marries the simplicity of nude tones with the richness of blues hues, while incorporating vibrant neon for an edgy flare. Talensi is a portrait of our constant pursuit of a balance between conservatism and modernism, the confident look we crave both on the runway and in our closets.
Although minimalistic in lifestyle, the Talensi tribe is rich with culture. This collection reveals the various treasures hidden in the northern Ghanaian culture in hopes that it will never be forgotten. This collection is an intimate exploration of what it means to be a woman, and it was inspired by the women who have taken bold fashion leaps with Christie Brown over the years.
Love always

This event marked the exciting second appearance of the label at fashion week and it happened to coincide with another thrilling event: the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which was held for the first time ever on African soil!
The collection comprised another fresh take on the use of African print, whilst still maintaining the timeless style and glamour that will appeal to women across all borders.
We decided to celebrate African prints as beautiful, vibrant embellishments on a range of materials, such as chiffons, silks, and soft linens. Classic shapes were modernized and enhanced with our vivid, African print buttons, which featured on necklines, pockets, and cuffs. African prints were introduced further through our use of funky, fringe detailing to enhance the vibrancy of our pieces and to add rich, bold texture to the collection. We also played with colour blocking throughout the collection to create striking, statement pieces.
Finally, we debuted our accessories line: a range of meticulously hand-crafted and utterly unique bib necklaces, embellished in an array of vivid, African print buttons and dazzling gems and a line of eye-catching, strand necklaces that will inject glamour to ANY outfit! xoxo

Christie Brown's debut collection at fashion week! We were thrilled to be invited to Africa Fashion Week, along with about fifty of Africa's finest fashion labels, to showcase our latest trans-seasonal collection.
This collection was inspired by a strong desire to present Africa in the most appealing way possible and to allow women the world over to enjoy the versatility and vibrancy of African prints. Thus, we combined African prints with a wide number of materials – silks, chiffons, denim, jersey, etc. – to produce a fresh, modern collection with bold colours, sexy cuts, and striking silhouettes, all extremely flattering to the feminine form.
At the end of fashion week, we are thrilled to report that Aisha Obuobi, Founder and Creative Director of Christie Brown, was awarded the highly coveted "Emerging Designer of the Year" award! xoxo
